The Grind in non MMO’s

Good for you sir!
Good for you sir!

Playing Diablo 3 has really introduced me to the concept of the MMO grind in games where they shouldn’t really be there. Diablo has of course always been an advocate of the loot grind, play the same areas to defeat the same enemies to get better loot so that you can defeat the same enemies easier, however that hasn’t detracted from the fun at all.

It’s interesting then to see other RPG’s go the exact same way when it comes to getting loot or even progressing through the game. One of the best examples I can think of is Borderlands and how you found yourself endlessly grinding enemies to get the best guns. I distinctly remember when the third piece of DLC came out and I found myself repeatedly farming the giant armory in order to egt the best equipment. So many wasted hours…

Anyway how do you feel about the typical MMO grind being in other genres of the video game world? Do you think it adds replay value to some games or do you think it has no right to be there? Be sure to comment and let us know! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
