After finding out that there is a website that exists which imitates the main menu of Halo 3 on a loop (beautiful music included!) it made me realise just how important they are to how a game feels and how it will stand the test of time.
Considering that Main Menus are usually the first snapshot we see about the game we are actually about to play they have to be memorable, smart or even play into the gameplay itself. We all remember the Halo 3 main menu of course but there is also the Call of Duty: Black Ops menu in which you could move your character around, find secrets and even play a secret minigame that was only accessible here. These types of differences are what make so many games unique and even though it might just be a series of button prompts that allow you to start becoming invested in the game itself the Main Menu might very well be one of the most important things for a game to get right. There’s a reason why I almost cry every time I boot up Halo 3 again.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
