Recently EA has been making big headlines with their decision to close down the development studio Visceral Games, known for their Dead Space series and the backlash from the gaming community has been huge. It’s been noted that EA tends to have a pattern; buy a small company needing help, give it the funding, resources and eventual success that it needs, slowly add features and design decisons made directly by the publisher which are controversial to the gaming community, watch as their sales slowly dwindle and then close them down.
Unfortunately it seems as though another studio has fallen victim to this trap, Respawn Entertainment. This company brought us the Titanfall series among other games and with the recent success and critical acclaim of Titanfall 2 it’s no surprise that many people are equally upset at their official partnership with EA. Will they be the ones to survive the process? Probably not, well at least you made some good games beforehand I suppose.
