Games are created not just to entertain us but also to provide experiences and worlds of all different kinds for us to explore and discover. Naturally alongside your typical power fantasy type games or happy-go-lucky positive experiences there is always the other side to the art, the sad one.
Games that are designed to make you feel sad seem like a bad idea when you think about them. We play games to entertain ourselves or to experience an immersed experience so being subjected to a negative one sounds like it would just make us want to immediately leave the game. This is not the case however, as games such as Limbo or Spec Ops: The Line have shown that even through the saddest and harshest of gaming experiences we can find appreciation and most importantly critical acclaim in these types of games.
I wondered, what are all of your opinions on these types of games? Do you find them worthwhile pieces of art that have to be experienced or do you find them to be a waste of time? Let’s discuss this in the comments section. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
