The Balance Power-Creep

Ok so after careful consideration and a better understanding of my funds maybe I will buy Overwatch… Don’t judge me.

I’ve yet to play the game yet obviously, however some interesting information came up while I was researching it. So there is a specific character, Bastion, the lovely looking robot you see above you. Many players, especially newer ones to the game, seem to believe that he is too powerful for the current game and that he needs to be nerfed. However other players say that he provides a huge amount of power and yet has obvious weaknesses, meaning he is fine as it is.

This brings up a problem that a lot of multiplayer games face, power creep. This is when, in order to make an ‘overpowered’ character weaker the developers buff the power of that character/classes counter, meaning they become more powerful and the original subject becomes redundant. However by doing this they gradually make that new character overpowered and thus must do the same to another character in order to compensate, and so on so forth.

Dealing with a power creep in a multiplayer environment is tricky. There are so many ways you can buff or weaken a specific character in order to make the game more balanced that most people will never be truly happy with the changes. Nevertheless Blizzard are known for bringing fairly good balance to their games so I suppose we will see what they do.

Anyway what do you all think of this issue? Do you think you have a solution? Feel free to share it below! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
