So after playing quite a lot of Hero Siege (I’m actually quite enjoying it) I came to realise that this is probably the first Hack ‘N Slash game I have played in a long time, but what exactly puts a game in the criteria for this genre?
Well you have to contain a lot of enemies that’s for certain, mooks that may as well be static objects in comparison to the power your character has. It has to contain swordplay although magic is also acceptable. It has to have pretty big boss fights, usually contained alongside the standard mooks and finally it has to be fast paced, sometimes with a combo system. Now that can encompass a huge variety of games however if I want to define a Hack ‘N Slash then I look no further than the Devil May Cry series. If the game behaves like that series then it is part of the same genre in my mind.
It’s a shame to see that there aren’t that many Hack ‘N Slash games recently. As I mentioned Hero Siege seems to be the only one I have seen recently.
