So after seeing a playthrough of Five Night’s at Candys, a fan-game recreation of the original Five Nights at Freddy’s it got me thinking about the idea of fan games and how much they may borrow from the actual game they are trying to celebrate. In this example it’s pretty clear to see the inspiration and just how much is similar however in other examples it’s not as easy.
Sure there are literally hundreds of fan game recreations of games like Super Mario 64 and such but many simply borrow too much from the original source. Some however are very innovative and provide enough of a different kind of game while still paying homage to the original that they can be considered great games of their own. That’s just my opinion anyway, I wanted to know what you all think about the idea of the fan game that is very close to the original. Do you think they are just leeching off of the success of other games or do you think most of them are just honest bits of fun work? Be sure to let us all know!
