The Shogun 2 Disaster

Talk about disrespecting the original!

I’m back! And hoo boy has CA and Sega been getting strong words thrown at them regarding this remastered version of Total War: Shogun 2. To the point that it has now actually been removed from online stores amidst an internal investigation, wild stuff.

The reason? AI Upscaling. Essentially a lot of in game visuals, including many of the unit cards, cutscenes and other textures appear to have just been thrown into an AI Upscaling tool and left at that. Not only that, but it appears as though CA actually had relatively little to do with this project, with Sega apparently handing this off to one of their other, smaller devs to handle the remaster and thus the issues with sloppy AI Upscaling suddenly makes a lot more sense now.

As of current we still don’t know the full story, but rest assured I’m glad to see such a huge pushback against lazy AI tool usage in these games. Hopefully this will keep Sega and all the companies underneath them away from the usage of these programs for the foreseeable future.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
