I suppose we all saw this coming but it’s finally happening, the developers of the big indie hit at the start of this year Palworld, Pocketpair, have had legal action taken against them by Nintendo. This has been in the form of a patent infringement lawsuit which seems to be related to their usage of Pokeball-like objects.
It’s been hotly contested if Palworld is too similar to Pokemon for comfort, and while I would say it seems more like just another creature-collecting game which Pokemon doesn’t have total control over, it would seem that Nintendo disagrees. So far however, we don’t have too many details on the case and I’m really not too sure which way this will go. On the one hand fighting againts Nintendo and their big lawyers is almost certainly a losing battle, but on the other I really don’t know what leg they have to stand on in terms of stating that Palworld steals from their games without also blatantly saying that the entire creature capturing genre is theirs too. I guess we will see over the next wee while what happens here, let’s just hope actual justice prevails in the end.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
