TF2 Source 2 is Dead

A shame we won’t get to see these… beautiful faces…

Valve seems to be doing a lot of things to anger their playerbase right now, especially so since they just gave DMCA notices on 2 big fan projects, TF2 Source 2 and Portal 64.

For those not aware, TF2 runs on the Source Engine, Valve’s flagship super game engine that has now been upgraded into Source 2 which runs their more modern games. Some fans of TF2 wanted to try and run the game on the new engine and as such started up their own fan project of TF2 Source 2. It seems as though Valve were not happy with this however as before the project even got a playable slice out to the public they issued a DMCA Notice. This is a massive shame as a lot of work has clearly gone into this project, as did the other project they shut down which was a N64 de-make of the original Portal.

For TF2 Source 2 however there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Similar to how Counter Strike: Global Offensive eventually got ported over to Source 2 the fact that Valve are so keen to shut this down may be a sign that they are currently working on doing so themselves. It’s a stretch, but I hope it’s the case as it would be a huge boon to the game that has felt largely forgotten by Valve. We can only hope and speculate for now…

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
