Tears of Joy

Putting the Sanbox in Zelda it seems!

A surprise video dropped from Nintendo as the producer of the next Zelda game, Eiji Aonuma, gave us a quick gameplay demonstration and rundown of some of the new features added to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You can watch the full gameplay demonstration above but here are a few highlights!

Firstly the game definitely still looks like Breath of the Wild, looking as gorgeous and stylish as ever. Of course however there’s the big thing shown off in most of the trailers, the fact that there’s now floating islands around the open world. There are numerous ways you can get to these islands but in the gameplay demonstration it showed just one of them, being able to use one of your new powers to rewind time to reverse a falling platform’s descent and thus allowing you to go up.

They also showed off the new ‘Fuse’ power which let you combine various items together to give them new effects or stats, the ‘Ultrahand’ ability which lets you physically combine objects in the world to use as makeshift vehicles or platforms, and the ‘Ascend’ power which lets you travel directly upwards into the ceiling and arrive at the other side. The speedrunners must be going wild…

We of course also got shown some new enemies and items but this was mainly a demonstration of the new powers available to Link this time. The game really feels a lot more like a sandbox this time and with so many new ways to physically interact with the world and the objects within it you can bet that this entry will feel a lot more different to the original. I can’t wait to make wooden flying platforms to airskate my way around Hyrule!

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
