Sony have started off the week of big gaming news with their State of Play which gave us quite a few interesting things to talk about. So… let’s talk about them.
First off, of course, we had gameplay of Insomniac’s Wolverine game which looks exactly like you’d expect it to, an angry man cutting people up. I personally don’t get the hype behind it, but people like it, so I’m happy for them,
In more interesting news for me, Rayman Legends is getting a remake in full 3D which is an odd choice. The art style for that game is one of its greatest assets, so remastering it just seems like a strange amount of effort when they could have instead tried to do the Rayman trilogy which desperately needs a remake. Regardless, for Rayman fans, this will be big news.
We also were told that the new Tomb Raider game is being delayed until next year, what bad timing to announce a delay, but development is a weird and wonderful thing. We also got confirmation that the new Silent Hill game set is jolly old Britain will be coming out in September, not too long now!
What is perhaps the most interesting announcement for me however is the reveal of a brand new Stuntman game, Stuntman: Hollywood, which may seem like an odd choice for me to get excited for however the original Stuntman was one of my favourite PS2 games so seeing a return to this franchise is wonderful to see!
Next we were shown that Until Dawn is getting a numbered sequel, Until Dawn 2, which is odd as I thought all those episodic games that game out as part of the ‘Dark Pictures Anthology’ were supposed to be spiritual sequels to this game, but shows what I know. This one is set on a tropical island and gives me Far Cry vibes, guess we’ll see which of these teenage adventurers ends up becoming native by the end.
Finally, Sony rounded off the showcase with the reveal of the new God of War, ‘Laufey’ which sees you play as the dead wife of Kratos from the first part of the reboot series as she fights her way through the Norse afterlife. That’s a hell of a gambit, and an interesting direction to take this series. I just hope that she will have the same kind of stardom/staying power that old daddy Kratos does.
That’s all I wanted to say for this. It’s highly unlikely I’ll actually get to play most of these due to being Playstation exclusives but at least I can look at them and think they are neat, I guess. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
