Once again we are met with even more layoffs in the gaming industry, this time being EA that recently claimed they would be cutting around 5% of their work force and through that cancelling several projects such as a big Star Wars FPS and through that the closure of another development studio, Ridgeline Games.
It follows a previous year of terrible layoffs at various gaming companies and the subsequent human impact of these job losses, with 2024 still looking to kick the industry while its down. This is the unfortunate truth of when business and artistry mixes together, especially when stakeholders are involved. An endless mirage of growth created by recording record profits and then cutting costs by getting rid of the people that made your games good. I just hope that all of this slows down soon as we could be seeing a real crisis on our hands if it continues at this pace.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
