HLX

For those not in the know Valve employees recently took part in a GameSoundCon panel, a conference and talks dedicated to gaming sound design. One of the panels, ‘Valve’s Approach to an Open and Flexible Audio Engine’, directly had Valve employees talk about how they do sound design in various of their projects including Deadlock. In the clip above however one of the sound engineers, Mike Morasky, stated that this technology would also be utilised in something called ‘HLX’.

Now this is something that has been speculated for a while and mentioned in outside circles but never by Valve themselves until now. For context, HLVR was the internal codename for Half Life: Alyx and as such this new acronym seems to suggest another Half Life project is coming out in the near future. As to what it might be we can only speculate, however many are thinking that of course this may be the heavily rumoured Half Life 3. Will it actually be this, or something entirely new? We simply don’t know at this stage. However it’s absolutely possible that it’s something big as the immediate regret that Mike had when mentioning the acronym is very telling. Regardless, for now we will just have to wait and see and who knows, maybe something will come up at this year’s Game Awards in December…

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
