Goodbye to the Bethesda Launcher

Goodbye, and don’t come back!

In a surprise announcement from Bethesda Softworks they have stated that they will be shutting down the ‘Bethesda Launcher’ service approximately in May and that all of their games and extra services would be transferring over to and be directly integrated into Steam. In April you will be able to begin the process of porting all of your purchases and account details over to Steam and in the following months the launcher will become obsolete.

Having used the launcher myself plenty of times, especially when dealing with Fallout 76, all I can say for this is thank god it’s going away. The launcher was buggy, user un-friendly and was ultimately a massive pain to actually use. It seems Bethesda is finally seeing sense and recognising that Steam is the superior PC platform to run their games from so I’m glad to see them making a sensible decision. I do wonder however if this had something to do with their acquisition by Microsoft, not wanting a competing launcher platform for the Xbox app and all, but that remains to be seen. All I know is that I will no longer have to see this terrible launcher again, and I couldn’t be happier for it.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
