Some time ago ‘Digital Extremes’, current developers of Warframe, opened a Publishing branch in their company and got to work helping to publish a few games. The latest of which was Wayfinder, an MMO created by ‘Airship Syndicate’ which has not faired very well thus far. This is mostly due to exp gaining issues and monetization practices which has seen the player base plummet from initial outlooks, leading many to consider this a dead game on arrival. Seemingly in relation to this, DE has decided to give the publishing rights to the game over to Airship Syndicate and have closed their publishing division, letting go of several people in the process.
Now the publishing arm closing is sad and all, but perhaps they wish to simply focus on being a game creator rather than a game distributer which is fair. What is truly tragic however is the fact that many people have now lost their jobs thanks to a project that they didn’t develop. Things like this happening are a sad reality of what happens with failed projects, I just hope that these people can find other jobs pretty quickly. Nothing worse than something out of your control leading you to not being able to pay your bills.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
