To those of you who are still reeling from yesterday’s news get ready because another huge PC gaming announcement was just made and it concerns a game as old as time.
Dwarf Fortress is a very old game that still is being updated to this day. It’s a simulation game but calling it that is doing it a great dis-service as Dwarf Fortress is pretty much your very own fantasy world. The world is randomly generated, your fortress is randomly generated and even the lore of this story you have started is randomly generated. The thing that has kept people back from the game is the graphics which still use ASCII symbols to show gameplay and am impossibly difficult learning curve for those who try it out.
Luckily then it was announced that Dwarf Fortress is finally coming to Steam, not only that but it’s coming with actual sprites and UI upgrades, this will make the biggest hurdle of the game much easier to overcome and while sprite tilesets have existed for the game beforehand this is using a completely upgraded resolution set of sprites to make things easier to understand. Not only that but the Steam version will also have Workshop support meaning mods for the game will be easy to install and will fit in nicely with the original game. This version of Dwarf Fortress will be paid however while as the original is still completely free so it’s up to you whether you want to try out learning the incredibly difficult version for free or pay money to get an easier to understand and play game. Truly a tough choice.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
