I’ve been playing a lot of Diablo 2: Resurrected recently thanks to it coming to the Xbox Game Pass and I’ve been having a blast playing one of the best Necromancer classes in gaming history. So many skeletons, and so many things to kill, it’s a blast! Something that is of interest to me however is when I tried out other classes just to get a feel for them and how much different their playstyles ended up feeling. As the title of the post implies, Necromancer was very much a passive playstyle letting my minions do most of the work whereas anyone else took an active playstyle in their combat.
Now I’m not specifically talking about the idea of letting the game play itself for you, as that’s very much a thing developers try to avoid, I’m more talking about the idea of setting things up to then do gameplay versus having to constantly be on and doing things to progress forward. In its most basic form think of it like I summon a skeleton which then proceeds to hit an enemy versus going up to an enemy and hitting them myself. One involves me pressing only a couple buttons to complete the process where the other demands I keep pressing buttons until it is complete.
Now that’s not to say that I don’t like a bit of active gameplay in my Necromancer charcaters. I enjoy being able to cast curses or buff/heal my minions and managing their attack targets keeps my mind active and engaged in a different way to just running up to the enemy and hitting them with sticks. It’s also not just about summoning as there’s plenty of playstyles that promote passive gameplay such as Aura’s or AOE Damaging Spells that you just turn on and watch as enemies fall down. There’s many different forms of either playstyle and it’s very much a taste preference for which you enjoy. As you may gather from my previous talking points I much prefer passive playstyles such as playing Engineer/Medic in TF2 or, of course, any Necromancer I can play. Which do you prefer? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments!
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
