Survival

I don’t believe I really touched upon the new survival mode for Fallout 4 that was released a little while back. Sure I explained what was going to be in it and how fun it was going to be but I never truly explained how I felt while playing it. The truth is, I turned Survival mode off after a few days and there is a good reason why, convenience.

Fallout 4’s new Survival mode has an array of incredible new features. Eating and sleeping mechanics, increased damage from both enemies and you, diseases, all that type of stuff. The problem comes from two main things, the save on sleep mechanic and data lag. Saving on sleeping is a cool idea, it means that when you die you have to start up from where you last slept, meaning that tougher battles can be a lot more punishing if you end up dying from them and you haven’t saved in a while. The problem comes for those of us that have busy lives and can’t always spend the time to play up until the point in which we can find a bed and instead we have to switch off our game and lose a huge amount of progress. This was a huge problem for me and was probably the main reason why i don’t play on survival anymore.

The second problem, data lag, comes in the form of the aforementioned eating, drinking and sleeping mechanics. For some reason my game started lagging to an insane degree when updating the status of my character when they were hungry or tire. This left me with several occasions in which my character had a good 12 hours of sleep and was even more tired than usual! Then after about 20 minutes of game time my sleep status suddenly changed to not tired, catching up to it. This has been a serious problem and it meant that I couldn’t truly enjoy one of the main new features of this mode as it wasn’t working properly for me. Overall it was all about the convenience to enjoy the game itself, which I didn’t find I was doing very much as I kept on stressing out to look for a bed as I needed to head off to grab some dinner.

So what do you all think of the new Survival Mode? Do you like it or do you agree with my points? Let me know in the comments! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
