If you didn’t know Bethesda Softworks are currently planning to reboot the Quake franchise with the newest game in the series, Quake Champions, coming out at some point this year. Not only was the classic gameplay of Quake’s multiplayer revealed to the public but it also showed off the fact that, as the name may suggest, you get to choose ‘champions’ that act as classes in the game to change up the formula.
Another interesting wrench in the system to this classic style of gameplay is the fact that the game will be technically free to play. This is due to the fact that you can play as one hero if you choose to play the game free and can ‘rent’ other characters for a brief period of time using in game currency. If you opt to pay for the full game however you get access to all the champions, which stinks a bit of a pay to win mentality due to you having more options for gameplay if you pay upfront, might as well call the free version a demo to make it sound better.
Still I will hold my judgement until I see the system in action, and of course until I see if the game is good or not. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
