Xbox Games Showcase 2024

Why does their logo look radioactive?

With the absence of E3 now this is going to be what I would consider the replacements for the big ‘game reveal’ events as many of the big companies are now going to unveil their latest projects through dedicated livestreams. So here’s Xbox and Microsoft’s outing, are there new games this time? Will I care about them? Let’s find out! As a note for people new to this, I will only be covering the games I found personally interesting. For all of the announcements be sure to check out the recording of the official livestream.

First off, we of course have to speak about the obligatory Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 stuff, I don’t particularly care for it but it was there and it’s certainly more Call of Duty. What interested me far more though is the announcement of a new DOOM game! This time being Doom: The Dark Ages, as was rumoured for a good while, which is a prequel set in a pure power-metal medieval setting, but with guns and stuff, you know, the usual DOOM stuff.

Next up of interest was the announcement of a new Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard which of most interest to me has a Necromancer important character, so you can bet I will be checking this out! Next was Expedition 33, a strange looking post-apocalyptic/fantasy RPG that saw a group of adventurers trying to take down a painter of death. Looks really pretty and interesting, I’ll be interested to check it out!

We then has gameplay shown of the previously announced Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, though now confusingly being called MGS triangle? Odd choice, looks nice though! Shockingly we also got an announcement of a seemingly full reboot of the Perfect Dark series with sci-fi elements and aliens and stuff. Interesting direction for that shooter series to go in! We also got to finally see some gameplay for the new Fable and it looks absolutely gorgeous, I certainly can’t wait to try that out.

A really cool looking Fallout-esque looking game called ‘Atomfall’ was revealed which looked exactly like a Fallout game if it was set in Britain, so that’s curious! We also got more footage of S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 and Avowed, confirming that I am certainly more hyped to play these now that I have seen them fully in motion. Finally, the big new reveal, a new Gears of War Prequel game known as Gears of War: E-Day which seemingly tells of the first time the alien Locust appeared and screwed everything up.

All in all quite a lot of cool and interesting announcements! A bit too many things coming in 2025 to get too hyped about, but I for one am happy to know that with almost all of these coming to Game Pass I have a lot of games I will be playing next year. Let’s see if many of the ones for this year actually end up being good too.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
