Activision/Blizzard have once again proven that when given an opportunity to help improve the lives of their employees that they will choose to instead take the option that benefits themselves the most instead, great.
Recently I talked about how QA staff at Raven Software, creators and runners of several Call of Duty titles, had decided to create a new union in protest of several members of staff losing their jobs to maintain profit margins. This union was called the ‘Game Workers Alliance’ and was placing a formal pledge to be recognised by the overseeing comapny of Activision/Blizzard as a proper union of the staff. Unfortunately however it would seem as though this request has been denied and as such the GWA will have to start procedures for being recognised by the National Labour Relations Board instead. This will hopefully force the gaming conglomerate to take them seriously and begin the bargaining process for the lives and workflow of the employees working at the company.
Will anything even come of this? Honestly I don’t know. There are rumours abound that the Union doesn’t have that many members and as such they may instead be stomped out in the industry before it has a chance to flourish. I hope this isn’t the case and that things will get resolved but we will just have to wait and see.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
