The Steam Awards for 2018 results came in and the results are a… weird choice. This however is to be expected as the rewards were voted for purely from the public which can result in some strange choices for awards. Some of these weird choices were the best VR game going to Skyrim VR (which I do love) but Beat Saber I feel deserved it more, The Witcher 3 got an award for best environments despite it being an older game and this being the 2018 awards specifically but the weirdest of all was game of the year which was PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds).
The fact that this game got the ultimate accolade is just sad for me. The game clearly still has a lot of polish that needs to go into it and many have accused the game of simply being a thrown together asset flip which from seeing screens you can’t really blame them for thinking. I honestly feel as though Warframe should have gotten the award but then again maybe I am just biased. Maybe next time we should just stick to judges and critics choosing the awards as I feel this is not very indicative of the current state of quality gaming, instead it just feels like what games are the most popular. Truly a shame.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
