The Unreal 5 Demo

Purty

It seems the big name companies in the industry are starting to prepare themselves for the next generation console’s arms race as they start to reveal their new technology and as a result show us some pretty tech demos in order to convince us that they are the best.

The one most recently shown off is a collaboration between Epic Games and Sony with the brand new Unreal Engine 5 being shown off on what they claim is the brand new Playstation 5 architecture. It certainly looks very pretty and the team states throughout the demo the various new features that this brand new engine allows people to do, including allowing them to directly port 3d models rather than focus on adapting them to polygonal counts which I’m sure will take a massive amount of stress off developers. Something to keep in mind however is that the demo very clearly is attempting to show the absolute best look possible and as such games will absolutely not look nearly this good and that the technology is still very much in development and will most likely only see the light of day by the end of next year.

Still it’s something to look forward to, even if it does increase development time and resources as a result but hey let’s look at the positives, it looks pretty. I’m curious to see what Microsoft will show off for the next Xbox variant, maybe it will be around the time when E3 was suppossed to take place, only time will tell I suppose. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
