Gears For Breakfast, the developers behind A Hat in Time, are truly aiming to be one of the most welcomign communities for platforming modders in the current generation of gaming and their latest venture is absolute proof of this. Recently they announced a new program known as the ‘Creator DLC’ concept which is essentially a bit like how Bethesda did the Creation Club but implemented in a better way.
How it works is essentially budding modders can submit their proposals to Gears For Breakfast and if they are accepted they can create a substantial DLC-sized mod or new game mode/addition to A Hat in Time and then it will be sold as an official product through Steam as an add-on. This allows talented modders to profit off their hard work and also allows people to create substantial new pieces of content that normally wouldn’t be feasible to release just for free. The first product from this program, Vanessa’s Curse, is coming out November 27th and is a completely new multiplayer PvP mode that the game previously never had before. If the creations will be huge additions such as this then I could really see this becoming popular.
Of course I have seen plenty of people also complain about this due to the pool of modders perhaps diluting themselves and releasing less free content if they can instead be paid for their work but I’m sure that’s something the developers have taken into consideration. However I am willing to admit that this could become an issue so I guess we will just have to wait and see if this ends up becoming a Bethesda-level disaster of a Valve-level success for compensating modders.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
