I love finding hidden gems, games that are generally not known to the public are some of my favourites as they can hide some of the greatest concepts for the genres they take place in. I’ve always wanted a Zelda RTS as I really like the world and while Hyrule Warriors never quite matched what I was looking for this amazing project certainly does.
Hyrule Conquest is a mod of the free open source RTS game 0 A.D. (which through this I also just learned existed!) and aims to take the core concept of the title and create a completely built from the ground up Zelda RTS which is such an awesome idea. The game has all of the iconic characters, enemies and even landmarks from all across the Zelda series alongside having interesting mechanics for each of the different factions you can play as. This work is incredible and is very soon getting a brand new large update on Halloween with the introduction of another faction, the Stalfos, which are the undead legions of the Legend of Zelda universe (so of course you know I will be checking them out first!)
If you’re interested in this at all then give the mod a download here and get the base game of 0 A.D. here (which I have also heard is a great historical RTS) and be sure to support the creator as projects like these deserve as much love as possible.
