Take-Two and Zynga Merger

This looks very… friendly…

Another huge merger between two gaming companies has just taken place and is now the second largest in the industry’s history (just behind the Microsoft acquisition of Activision/Blizzard) between Rockstar Games and Zynga.

Now it’s more than likely you’ve heard of Rockstar considering they are industry titans but you may never have heard of Zynga before. Well you will know of one of their titles, Farmville! This was the biggest game that was hosted on Facebook back in the day and ever since then Zynga have focused on the browser-based and mobile gaming spaces to make their fortunes. As a result most who are only interested in the main gaming areas may not have heard of their success but as can be seen from this merger they have been doing incredibly well with their profits.

The merger has fully completed and as such is now in effect with just some paperwork waiting to go through. In many ways Rockstar working directly with Zynga makes sense as they don’t typically work with either the mobile or browser spaces and as such this new company can essentially focus on those places while Rockstar themselves handle the mainstream gaming platforms. It will be interesting to see what comes from this but I’ll be sure to keep an eye on both companies in case anything fishy comes from this deal.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
