Rarely do livestreams on video game cause mainline media attention however it seems as though youtuber hbomberguy has made national headlines with his recent completionist stream for Donkey Kong 64, though not for the reasons you might think.
You see he chose to represent the charity known as ‘Mermaids’ who focus on transgender issues and help with surgeries. This was done after realising that the charity would not get their grant money from the UK national lottery due to complaints from several high ranking personalities. As a result this livestream was made and after fifty hours of non-stop Donkey Kong 64 it was complete.
Not only was this an endurance stream but several guests appeared to make these issues aware including the creator of DOOM, John Romero and even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a congresswoman from New York. The original goal was for a donation goal of $500 however this was completely blown out of the water as by the end of the stream he had raised over $347,000 which is absolutely insane. This may very well go down as the most successful charity livestream ever on Twitch so props to you good sir, I certainly hope to see more happy stories like this again.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
