Valve have finally revealed the price and pre-orders for their upcoming Steam Machine and, well, considering the current computing climate it’s certainly expensive. $1049 for the basic model, which ask you can imagine is asking a lot for a console. In fact this would be one of the most expensive consoles ever released. However, it should instead be looked at as a Gaming PC for what it offers and for that price this is actually rather reasonable. It’s obviously still expensive, but if you’re looking to get an easy, simple solution to play high powered PC games then this would probably be one of your best choices.
It’s sad however to think that despite this because computer parts are so ridiculously expensive nowadays Valve were not able to reduce the price any further like they wanted to. Asking someone who maybe doesn’t know a lot about PC Gaming to fork out for such an expensive piece of equipment is the kind of barrier to entry that makes people buy consoles in the first place. Still, the pre-orders have already sold out so it’s clearly still popular regardless of this. We shall see how the sales for this little black box translates into the general gaming space.
