Speedrunner Banned from GDQ After Broadcasted Run

Well, guess you won’t be seeing this anytime soon

And now for the bad news from this year’s SGDQ… shame. Despite how incredible this year’s showcase was and the great amount of money made for charity there will always be some form of controversy and this one is centered around the speedrunner known as Mekarazium.

Meka did a speedrun showcase of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance this year and put in an impressive effort for his attempt. As part of the showcase bonus goals however he also was to show off a run of one of the pieces of DLC for the game, the Blade Wolf DLC. During the event he was able to make it into the fastest run he has ever done of it and thus make it a new World Record which shocked all in attendance. However as you may have guessed, later on it was discovered that this run was actually faked.

This is due to the fact that Meka streamed his attempts from home and thus was able to produce a spliced run for the DLC incentive to make it seem more impressive. After the event he admitted to this but did not expect event staff to go public with it. However they did in fact do this and thus he has been banned from future events and had both his runs removed from the highlights channel. Such a shame as I actually watched these runs before they went down and it angers me that he has so much confidence and a smug persona throughout both runs and as it turns out he wasn’t being entirely honest with his abilities. Hopefully this doesn’t dissuade event staff from allowing online streamed runs in future however this would be a pretty good example as to why things like that are trickier to manage during a live event.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
