Rogue Legacy’s Source Code Released

The building blocks of digital life…

I’m happy to report for once that another leak has NOT occurred this time, but that developers Cellar Door have decided to release the source code for their beloved indie title Rogue Legacy for free on the internet that you and I can just download if we want.

The idea is to give people free access to the game even if it ends up getting taken down due to digital storefronts shutting down or such. The source code doesn’t contain art assets and such, so you will still actually need to buy the game in order to play it, but this is still a huge step in allowing gaming history to be recorded. So many companies, Nintendo especially, are so secretive with their old game code that indie devs doing something like this really shows their commitment to ensuring the survival of the gaming medium even into the far future. I hope more companies take notes from this and decide to release the source code to their older titles, who knows, it may end up making the game an ancient relic found once again in the far flung apocalyptic future.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
