Many companies are known for having one massive success story and then not being able to follow up with subsequent projects. None of these are more obvious than that of Mojang, the creators of Minecraft. From their greatest success story in making one of the biggest games in the entire world they haven’t really made anything else that has been close to the success of that game. They have helped produce a couple of games and have even made some others but nothing has ever really stuck which is why their latest announcement is getting a lot of people excited.
Minecraft Dungeons is said to be a classical style four player dungeon crawler set in the Minecraft universe and was announced at their big Minecon event. What exactly the game will entail has not been revealed, in fact basically the only thing shown off aside from a trailer was the fact that the game would be released at some point next year. I am certainly skeptical as to whether this game will catch the magic of the orginal Minecraft as that game’s open ended imagination-based gameplay helped make it what it is so pushing it through a genre of gaming that has been done to death by now is a curious decision indeed. I suppose we shall just have to wait and see for when gameplay comes out before we make any rash decisions.
