It seems as though Respawn Entertainment are really getting into the news stories on my site recently as another big bit of news just came for them, the fact that they are technically now the first ever game’s studio to win an Oscar! Though not for the reason you may think.
You see Respawn previously made a VR game for the Medal of Honour Series known as Medal of Honour: Above and Beyond which was a fairly bland VR experience according to those who played it. What was more interesting however was that there were a few short live-action documentaries that came along with the game that told various stories from WW2. One of these was Colette, which featured the story of one of the last survivors of the French resistance as she travelled to the German concentration camp where her brother was killed. The documentary was apparently so good that it won the Oscar for Best Short Subject Documentary which due to the gaming company co-producing it means they also technically won this award, what an achievement!
It’s nice to see some recognition that gaming companies can also create incredible theatrical and historical stories, now it’s just time for them to give it to an actual game next time! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
