Nintendo’s AI Stance

I found this image when I google searched AI game generation… seems a bit… hopeful?

In an interesting turn of events Nintendo’s current president, Shuntaro Furukawa, noted in an investor call that Nintendo were not looking into Generative AI technology at all currently when it comes to game development and noted that they wanted to focus on their own creative vision and not just try to develop experiences that could just be created by technology alone.

Having such a hardline stance against AI generation in game development is a refreshing thing to see, though in some ways it makes a lot of sense for Nintendo. Rather than seeing this as a moral stance I believe this more comes from the mentality that Nintendo has to rising tech, that being they would rather just do things their way. As such, while we luckily won’t be seeing AI generation stuff for a while in Nintendo games when we get to the point that it actually becomes a really helpful tool that would be welcome in general game development I can still see Nintendo saying no purely for the sake of holding onto their IP with an iron grip. Guess we will just see how it pans out, but for now I’m just glad mario won’t have 6 fingers on each hand.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
