So we were partially right then. Ok so there wasn’t a Direct last week but there was one during this month! Yes it’s a partner showcase and as such maybe not as big as a usual Direct, but it’s something! So here’s a rundown of the games that personally interested me. Once again if you’re looking for an entire breakdown then check out the stream archive on Nintendo’s Youtube channel.
Firstly we had the announcement that Grounded, the tiny people RPG, is being ported to Switch which is always nice to see. Then we got to see a cool indie titled that I think is related to Ender Lillies. This time it’s Ender Magnolia and, just like Ender Lillies, sees you take on the power of deceased people to use in metroidvania-style gameplay. Always interested me that little concept…
We were then told that Disney’s Epic Mickey is getting a full remake known as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. I don’t know strictly if I would call the original game a ‘classic’ but it’s nice to see here nonetheless. We also got to see a lovely surprise, the first Star Wars Battlefront games are being ported to Switch and are being given their online multiplayer features. the original entries in this series were always a favourite of mine so being able to play them online again is a huge relief.
Next up, a new Super Monkey Ball game! This time it’s ‘Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble’ and alongside the usual monkey flailing trappings of these games will also include 4 player local co-op and a very Fall Guys-esque looking online multiplayer mode which will see up to 16 players racing and battle on maps as their own monkeys. Looks hectic as hell and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Finally of my interest was Endless Ocean luminous which looked like a very chill ocean exploration game. It even allowed you to play with a massive amount of people online at the same time, so it felt a bit like an ocean-themed 3d chatroom. I for one will be interested to see how the general public feels about this kind of game as it certainly looks very pretty.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
