I love the speedrunning community despite how insane some of their dedication can be. Having so much love and passion for a single game to the point in which you could probably break down the code of the title and manipulate it to your needs is an incredible skill that can be truly impressive to witness. Sometimes however skips can come from the most random of places, such as a random casual Twitch stream!
Streamer ‘Boba’ was doing a playthrough of the original Metal Gear Solid for her viewers when suddenly at one point she was cornered by 2 guards who proceeded to shoot her while her back was against a loading door. Strangely enough the animation of Snake being shot clipped her through the door and into the next section, skipping a massive chunk of gameplay that you would normally have to go through and saving a huge amoutn of time in a speedrun.
The MGS speedrunning community have already taken to affectionately calling this “Bobaskip” and have also started experimenting on other doors in the game to see if this skip can be applied in other areas. If so this could be a huge development in the speedrun of the game which could completely change the way it is played. It’s so nice to see something like this just pop up out of random chance and I’m sure Boba is very happy to have contributed to an important milestone in the speedrunning scene. Here’s a link to the clip where the magic happened!
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
