Majora’s Mask Recompiled

Another adventure in Termina? Sounds pleasant!

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is probably my favourite Zelda game as it’s the one I think most fondly about and consider replaying every once in awhile. It seems then that the talented devs behind the Zelda 64: Recompiled project can read my mind as they recently completed a fully playable recompilation of Majora’s Mask and you can download and play it right now (as long as you have the needed ROM of course).

So what is the recompilation? Essentially it’s a new software that allows easy translations of Nintendo 64 game code into modern computer code allowing it to run effectively directly off the system it’s played on rather than relying on an emulator. Due to this, this version of Majora’s Mask supports all the things you would imagine a full remaster release of a game would include from higher framerates, to more visual clarity, to auto-saves and even gyro controls. All these are capable of running off most machines and Majora’s Mask has never looked better to me, even compared to the 3DS remake! Just from watching the opening cinematic and seeing how smooth the gameplay looks compared to N64 hardware I am absolutely hooked and now I have a new reason to play through Majora’s Mask again. You can check out the project and download the Zelda 64 programme right here. Time for my return to Termina, maybe I’ll do some speedrun tech this time…

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
