There’s a new game that just came out on Steam Early Access which seems to have a very intriguing concept and could develop into a very interesting game over time.
It’s called Flotsam and is essentially a mix of Sim City, the film Waterworld and a beautiful cell shaded visual style. You are in charge of a small floating settlement on the sea after a massive apocalypse caused the complete flooding of the world. It’s up to you to manage your settlers by giving them tasks and priorities, collect salvage, build up a floating shanty town and eventually make that town mobile and explore the vast ocean to see what you find. The concept alone is very unique and I absolutely adore how the game looks. It has a certain Wind Waker-esque charm to it and it certainly seems as though it was made with love and care.
Unfortunately though due to the game still being in Early Access right now many people are stating how there is very little content to do right now and that due to this the price is a bit high. However it’s clear that the game has a lot of potential and with some extra development over time this could very well be a welcome addition to the city management and survival genres, it’s certainly an interesting mix. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
