Embracing New Publishers

Maybe a new Deus Ex game?

The Publisher known as Embracer Group (Formerly THQ Nordic) has been on a bit of a spending spree acquiring studios left and right from well known industry veterans to the more obscure game developers and it seems as though they may have just bought some of their biggest purchases yet. Acquired directly from Square Enix they are now the owners of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal, talk about a big portfolio update.

These studios will now work directly with the Embracer Group to publish whatever new games they have in the works and this marks an important step for these studios. It’s clear to many that Square Enix is slowly losing interest in the wider gaming market just as Konami did, hell even the creator of Sonic, Yuji Naka, says this as he begins a lawsuit against the company, so unshackling these western developers from a company that has this mindset may be a good thing in the long run. Hell in the official statement about these purchases Square Enix even stated that these purchases will allow them to focus further on projects directly involving the blockchain. As soon as you hear something like that Konami-themed alarm bells should start ringing in your ears. Regardless it will be interesting to see if any of the studios start any new projects under new leadership and I wish the best for them regardless.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
