While nostalgia is used a lot to help sell indie titles I don’t think I have seen quite the unique use of it as I have for this interesting title coming out on Steam soon.
Disc Creatures is very much a Pokemon-like game which uses the original Game Boy old school visual style and boasts the ability to collect and battle using over 200 different creatures in the game. While there have been attempts to ride on Pokemon’s popularity this game seems to be a loving homage to the original games and look like an absolute visual treat to someone like me who grew up with the Game Boy titles.
The other thing that makes this interesting is the fact that this is a solo development effort. Satto (the game’s creator) stated that while he was growing up he loved to play monster collecting games and as such he was influenced from his childhood passion to create this fun game and hopefully try to recapture some of that original genre’s magic. I certainly wish him the best of luck and I hope he gets the intended response to his project.
