Bethesda Did an Oopsie

And in other news, grass grows and birds fly…

Recently, in celebration of the new DOOM game reveal and anniversaries Bethesda decided to release a DOOM + DOOM 2 bundle remaster that gave new features such as online multiplayer, new engine upgrades and even a brand new series of levels to play that were made officially. Alongside all this they also released a mod browser that allowed you to download and play mods directly in the game client which is a huge quality of life improvement for the games.

However, this came at a cost. The main one being that anyone can upload a DOOM mod onto the browser for others to download without any permissions needed, meaning you can easily just steal someone else’s work and pass it off as your own with no repercussions. This is, of course, a massive problem and has been seen as a great betrayal by many in the DOOM modding community, especially as Bethesda has been dealing with this problem previously with their in-game mod stores for Skyrim and Fallout 4, so this is just continuing the misery. Hopefully they update the games to patch this out, though how they will verify this I have no idea. Still, it’s a massive shame that the modding community, the reason why DOOM is still relevant today, is feeling the pain from what should have been an excellent new chapter in the legacy of these games. Bethesda messed up again, we totally didn’t see this coming…

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
