It seems Halo is stirring once again after being in a funk for a good while with Infinite’s release, and big changes are abound. Firstly, the studio that has been making Halo for the past few years, 343 Studios, has decided to change their name to ‘Halo Studios’… for some reason. Secondly, they are making the next Halo game in Unreal Engine 5 rather than the old and in some ways clunky Slipspace Engine. Finally, they showed off a few screenshots and footage of the next game being showcased in the new engine, and it looks very pretty.
Thing is, and I hate to be a downer, I don’t really see how this will make Halo relevant again. Sure they can make it look pretty, and that’s nice, but Halo needs a hell of a lot more than just looking pretty to become the biggest FPS on the market again. Hopefully at least the new engine will help make the development of the next title smoother, however I won’t hold my breath to think this will save the franchise or anything. Maybe… just maybe… it’s time for Master Chief to go rest, he’s certainly earned it.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
