Despite playing through and loving The Witcher 3 and all of it’s extra content I have never actually done a full playthrough of the original Witcher. I have it and certainly gave it a go however I just really wasn’t feeling it and so decided to shelve it for it’s much more appealing and successful sequels.
However that may change as CD Projekt Red have announced that the upcoming remake of the first game, which is being handled by studio ‘Fools Theory’ will be a total reimagining of the original game with an open world similar to the third game and much improved gameplay mechanics. It sounds to me as though they’re going for essentially a new game that is a blend of the third’s gameplay with the first’s story which is a great idea in my opinion. I wouldn’t hold my breath though as last time a studio unfamiliar with making games in a series took up the mantle of creating remakes of classic games we ended up with the GTA Definitive Collection so be sure to hold your praise until we see the actual game in motion. Regardless I do wish Fool’s Theory luck in their endeavour and I hope the game does turn out to be good, might even end up playing it if that’s the case.
