The Emphasis of the Single Player

FREEEEEEE FALLING

I’m still enjoying my time with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and this game has really shown me just how enjoyable a single player experience can be without any need for microtransactions, additional content or ‘live service’ features. This game is just a fun game that I payed for and am playing now, really that seems to be the crux of it all.

Too many companies these days claim to those who are not in the know, and investors, that games need to have these additional features now to drive up engagement and ensure a constant flow of money. However I am finding that this big budget title, with none of those things, really brings me back to a simpler time of just playing and having fun without thinking about any of those additional things. I for one will be very excited once other companies start to take notice and realise, single player isn’t dead, and in fact it can produce some of the most fun experiences that can be played today. Yes it’s hard to make, yes it requires a lot of creative thinking and no it won’t rake in the billions that other online live services make, but it’s fun, and isn’t that what games are all about? Fun and making people happy. I just hope this trend continues.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
