I don’t think there is any other game character that has been over-represented as much as Mario. He’s gone on adventures, explored galaxies, gone on holiday and even helped people learn typing. Despite this, Mario still has a lot going on when it comes to the world of fan games with so many versions and gameplay genres that is borders on the absurd. From the early internet fun of ‘Mario with a gun’ to full-blown 2D adventure games published today there’s so many Marios that trying to play through all of them would be an insane endeavour. It does showcase however the love that the fans can have for a franchise even when the original creator is still waiting to release a full blown new entry into their original series of games.
I want to know form all of you, because I know you will have played them, which is your favourite Mario fan game/romhack? I personally quite enjoy the full adventure fan games, some of them do things better than Nintendo themselves, but I’m willing to hear what you all have to say on this too.
