Region-Based Games

Hmm… I wonder oh I wonder where this game could be based…

I was recently inspired to write this when I heard about the fact that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was so popular in Ukraine that it caused internet outages and issues for those in the country, which is both funny and an interesting point. There’s almost a sense of national pride in this gaming coming out for Ukraine, and there are other games that seem to inspire this type of fanaticism and focus.

An excellent example off the top of my head is Japan and Dragon Quest games. In other parts of the world they are well known RPG games but that’s about it. In Japan however, whenever a new Dragon Quest game comes out it’s practically a national holiday as so many people take time off work to play it. Scotland has this slightly whenever Rockstar releases a new Grand Theft Auto, though that’s more of a worldwide thing than a specific region. There are many examples of this throughout different countries and it almost makes you wonder if some countries would use video games to represent themselves just like some do with paintings or other old art mediums.

What are your thoughts on this phenomenon? And which game do you think would best represent your country? Let us know in the comments! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
