Sometimes I like to watch dumb movies that are all about action and explosions rather than using my brain to work out the plot or characters. These blockbuster no holds barred experiences are silly in their own way but provide fun for just the sheer ridiculous scenarios that they present and I feel many games don’t capitalise on this much.
Of course this comes from me coming off of playing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance which during the opening mission has you suplexing a giant mech while Japanese heavy metal is playing in the background which as you might imagine is quite ridiculous. I also adore playing games like this, from the current generation DOOM to high-octane action games like Warframe these help to provide a fast-paced and equally ridiculous series of events that can only be described as over the top. For myself while I would say I much prefer narrative based experiences I do enjoy jumping into a really good ‘dumb’ game from time to time and reminding myself of just why I love this medium. Slicing enemy cyborgs in half whilst riding missiles into the heart of a giant robot isn’t gonna get old any time soon.
So I wanted to know what you all think. What do you think about games that focus on action and spectacle rather than narrative and is there any in particular you enjoy playing? Let us know in the comments! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
