Indie Versions of Bigger Games

Could you tell this is like Total War?

We live in an age of uncertainty. Games that come out have to really impress us in order to grab our attention if they’re a new concept or a new IP, and those in the indie space have to fight for notice amongst the thousands of games uploaded or up for sale every single day. Many fail, but many others instead seek for a safer route, an indie version of another game.

These are things like your Planet Coasters, City Skylines, Tabletop Tavern and many more. Usually these come from game franchises that are no longer being made, or the IP is being controlled by a company that doesn’t actually care about the quality of their games. Other times it’s just devs who are inspired by their favourite games and want to make something similar. Either way, it’s a safer bet than something completely new as you already have a proven audience and you can potentially pull them over from the main franchise or even just be considered a fun side project for that audience to enjoy. This can also backfire however as if you pick a game that still has an active playerbase then many simply won’t bother to transition and will instead just continue to play the original game they like. At the end of the day the main factor is just considering if the indie game is good and worthy of people’s time, which I’ve found tends to be the case more often than not.

What are your thoughts however? And what are some of your favourite examples of this idea? Share your views and games in the comment section below! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
