Cheating the Odds

Will I be able to steal? That is the true question right there

In my first ever playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 I will fully admit that I have been save scumming at various points. Not to get out of the consequences of my actions, I usually deal with those, but to ensure that I have access to certain bits of content and are not locked out of it. It’s a difficult thing to come to grips with, but I’m happy knowing that my necromancer character isn’t going to be permanently locked out of certain minions just because they failed a single saving throw.

In these circumstances save scumming to me isn’t a problematic design choice or issue with the concept of balance, but instead a way that I get to enjoy the game in the way I have wanted to since I first started playing. I know there are playthroughs that have people doing an ‘Honour’ mode in which they are not physically allowed to save scum, but to me those types of playthroughs are entirely the point, posing a challenge to you and putting you in the mindset that if you fail you just accept that bit of content isn’t showing up this run. It’s a cool idea, and one I may try some day, but on my first try of this game I want to see everything I can, and if I have to save scum to do so then so be it.

What are your thoughts on this? Is save scumming to not miss out on content alright with you? Leave your thoughts below! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
