The Future of Pokemon

Now this looks cool!

Just at the end of last week there was a Pokemon-themed livestream that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the series with a few announcements that made for some very interesting discussion. We of course got updates on New Pokemon Snap and a whole bunch of events happening in the current games but I wanted to mainly mention the 2 new games announced.

Firstly it seems that finally Sinnoh is indeed confirmed with the remakes of the original Diamon and Pearl now called Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl which are set to come out later this year. The games are looking like faithful recreations of the originals however they have a type of chibi-like art for the characters which a lot of people are conflicted on. Personally I’m more interested in what content the game will have added to ake it worth more than the originals before I consider purchasing it.

The other announcement however is the big one that has many people talking, Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It is essentially the big open-world Pokemon game that people have wanted for years looking like a mix of Breath of the Wild and Pokemon in both art style and gameplay too. It’s apparently also set in Sinnoh however it’s also a prequel to all the previous mainline games and is set in a type of pseudo-feudal Japan-like location, a very interesting choice with a lot of potential for the future of the series. Personally I think it looks like a brilliant idea however others have mentioned that the visual and framerate are lacking however something to keep in mind is that this is a very early look at the game as it’s not even set to be released until next year so it’s best to temper expectations at the current moment. Now when it gets close to release and the visuals have still not improved then there will be something to worry about.

That’s all there was from this series of announcements. Not too much to show off but I think that they only needed to show a few big hits anyway in order to get fans interested. I just hope they will be able to capitalise on this hype and take the appropriate feedback into consideration in order to make this a good year for Pokemon games, they desperately need it. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
